Curious to know what it’s like to work at Ample? We’ll spare you the “no two days are alike” cliche and we’ll dive into the details that make up our much esteemed office culture.
If you want to partner with us, here’s more insight into our culture and our embedded contagious empathy for our work, our clients, and ourselves.
Here’s what the team has to say…
It consists of running my team's ceremonies (starting with stand up), communicating with our clients (via Zoom, email & Asana), project managing our sprint commitments and any urgent requests. I also do quality assurance tasks in our test environments and I manage the overall health & wellness of my awesome team. :)
Hands down it’s the people and work culture! I've never felt more supported and encouraged at a company before like I have here. Ample really treats their employees as people first, and workers second which is especially rare at a remote company. I truly enjoy all of the people I work with, and value their approaches, communication, respect, talent, and camaraderie.
I really enjoy working with Crossroads because we've built a great relationship filled with trust and respect. This allows us to truly be partners where we make recommendations and help build strategies with them. It's awesome to feel like we are making a difference in our client's lives.
I did a bit of research on context switching and made a new retrospective to understand why my team was struggling with context switching. It went very well and the solutions we implemented were very successful. It wasn't my intention to have it become a big thing but Ample really applauded my efforts and I am SO not used to getting recognition like that! It was very rewarding and definitely inspired me to continue to act on ideas/thoughts like that :)
I'm boring and usually listen to a playlist called "deep focus" or sit in silence. 🤫
My cat loves to jump onto my chair and sit behind my back while I'm working.
Every morning starts with a standup meeting where we review the previous day’s work and outline our tasks for the day ahead. After that, I might be working on building a page or feature, conducting code reviews, or attending a few meetings. As an individual contributor, I'm fortunate to have sizable blocks of time to stay heads-down on my work which helps me stay productive.
Even as a remote company, Ample fosters a highly collaborative atmosphere. My experience here has allowed me to continuously grow my technical knowledge and benefit from various perspectives, and my team is always willing to offer feedback or help me get unblocked on something challenging.
One notable project I've been part of is developing a low-code, flexible page builder. Working on this tool has allowed me to dive deeper into providing an intuitive and empowering user experience which is a subject area that I find super interesting.
I would love to pencil in more time for professional growth. This is already built-in to our workdays to an extent. Lately the developers on my team have been doing a weekly book club where we've been reading through The Pragmatic Programmer, but there is always more to learn!
My cat Wiley loves to jump up on my desk and help me refactor code.
My go-to snack lately has been protein yogurt with berries and granola.
Stand up super early then scattered meetings. My day is mostly spent coding and solving problems.
The people are great. I've never been on a real team like this before that genuinely works together towards a goal versus infighting.
I loved working on the photo gallery for Sibcy Cline. We used an industry rival's gallery as an example and I got the opportunity to reverse-engineer it. It was very complicated because I was challenged with the problem of creating a masonry grid that could accommodate not just horizontal but vertical layouts as well. The method I ended up using was similar to the “bin stacking” solution where you organize the photo grid with no white space remaining.
Recently I had a pressing deadline for a client where the time to complete certain tasks was tightly paired with an upcoming Zendesk launch. There was a bug that I could not solve and I was getting very frustrated. My project manager supported me throughout the entire journey of working on that bug by encouraging me and giving suggestions. Once I eventually solved it, he fully celebrated with me. It felt great knowing someone else was just as invested as I was. It made the win feel even better because we shared that win.
I had the challenge of converting a Wordpress blog into a new shape that our Contentful Content Management System (CMS) could consume. It was challenging because these blog posts needed the rich text to be converted into a shape that fit into Contentful’s rich text input. I also had to take into account the embedded images and videos. All of these original elements were required to keep their original sequencing and styling. I ended up using two packages to loop over and read the xml files of the original blog posts, then I converted them to the Contentful content model. Through this loop, any videos and images not already in our Contentful CMS were created and embedded in the correct order into the new rich text fields. These new blog posts also included all of the original meta data and authors from the legacy Wordpress site. It was a great learning experience that made me confident in my migration skills. I'm proud to say that the script ran in production with no errors and completed every blog conversion in my async loop successfully.
“I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" by Taylor Swift. The line: "I cry a lot but I am so productive" is the hype all corporate girlies need. ❤️
I need coffee religiously or else I will cease to exist. :)
My manager shoots me random messages throughout the day to connect - it helps keep me from working in a silo. My roommate’s pup Benji also breaks into the room I'm working in to hangout and code!!! He slams the door open with his teeny 15 lb body.
Empathetic, Supportive, Encouraging
I share smart ideas on Slack with the latest in Search Marketing. I check on deliverables for various clients. I also peep on dog pictures from other Ample folks.
The team is a combination of empathetic professionalism and a drive to get work done. And I'm all on board for that.
Do Good Chicken. The empowerment to raise awareness on a new brand with a strong mission was both fulfilling and exciting.
Helping drive online leads for a healthcare client who was literally helping save lives - that felt good.
Deciding whether or not my pictures of outdoor birds qualify for the "Pets of Ample" channel on Slack. I decided that they did.
"Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen. I play this loud before every major client presentation.
Dots twisted pretzels - the new Parmesan & Garlic flavor.
